The Leisure Agency salutes the 2002 Ig Nobel prize winners. We feel that this year's competition was particularly stellar, with important research being conducted into such topics as how pre-emptive highlighting can affect reading comprehension and why shower curtains billow inwards (a field of study we have only just begun to explore). The valiant efforts of all the researchers involved this year are especially impressive in light of the typical media reaction to the awards, just brimming with showy condescension. We are grateful that these fine scientists did not let the confines of established society bring them down. Congratulations to all!
