The Latest Development

I thought that the world at large would like to know that I have now developed a tic under my right eye, a twitchy little muscle that runs through the recently acquired dark circle (thank you stress and sleep inconsistencies).

I've had this tic before, during the era of the voice lessons. I guess it is time to do some yoga or go on a bender or something. Me, I think it's a plot to make sure that I look as degenerated as possible for my upcoming 10th high school reunion.

I think the tic started promptly after it became clear that I need to make a very important, very hard, very stab-in-the-dark decision about Dad's care. I feel old today, but not old enough to make this call. When are the grownups going to step in and take over?

Tic tic tic.

You know, as a vocal performance major beginning on a path of educating her own students someday, I just have to say this about the voice lessons: a) the reason your teacher classified you as a mezzo-soprano is because that's the lowest female voice type we know, unless you happen to possess a manly baritone, in which case you can rightfully be called an alto (we ladies don't seem to have as many voice types to choose from as men), and b) what a strange and rather terrible teacher! But do sing at karaoke. Opera types just sound too goofy to belt out "Achy Breaky Heart" with gusto.

i know exactly the tic you're describing. maybe that is where some kind of frightening fatherly decision-making blood vessel is located.
