Can I get you a refill, honey?

Last weekend I asked Josh if we could open a diner-themed diner named Diner Diner. All the waitresses could wear different uniforms, crisp and colorful, and call you "sweetie." The pies would be fantastic.

Waitress Dress

Waitress Dress - back

Simplicity #4171. Despite the pockets, pieced collar, inset sleeves and buttonholes, this came together much more willingly than the yellow dress. Hopefully there will not turn out to be some kind of inverse trouble to make/fun to wear ratio going on here, because I'm really looking forward to taking this for a spin tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll just go get you your check.

When the Diner Diner opens, skip the food. Make it a feast for the eyes and ears. You do the waitress costumes and interior decor. Josh provides a full sound environment, complete with crashing dishes and tinny juke box music.

Wait staff must be trained to snap gum and yell orders to the "cook" in a nasal twang -- "Two lookin' at ya with a side of Harley" -- and it must be open 24 hours a day. Wait staff must all be performance artists, and the menu consists of kinds of interactions "diners" wish to have with the wait staff in "dining" environment -- they can select from Cynical Cindi, Warm-Hearted Wilma, Foul-Mouth Fran, Lonely Louise, etc.

There must a chain-smoking cook, ex-Marine, with an ash-and-blood-stained apron and a foul temper and a cleaver, as well as a skinny, trembly bus boy with a sparse moustache and a clumsy tattoo on one bicep. There must also be an illegal immigrant dishwasher who speaks no English.

Of course it must also be housed in a converted Pullman.

Woah. Weird. I saw your post and craftster and thought 'that's so cute, I should try to make a dress!' I went to Jo-Ann's for fabric for a purse later and decided to look at the designs. I saw that one and thought 'oh God, that's cute! Hey, isn't that one I saw on craftser?' I didn't buy it, but I came home and did a search on the pattern and this was the first post. I THINK YOU'RE SECRETLY TRYING TO MAKE ME MAKE THIS DRESS. I THINK YOU ARE SUCCEEDING.
