Hello, how do you all deal with summer feet? You know how it is when the weather turns warm and you want to bust out your kicky knee-length skirts and your new cute flats, purchased at deep sexy discounts during the harsh winter, that have been waiting so eagerly in the closet until now? And you do not want to wear pantyhose because it is so warm and green and fresh out and you must feel the soothing breezes on every possible part of your body that you can get away with without being in questionable taste? But: cute flats + bare feet + warm temperatures = singularly unladylike smelly feet, and eventually, perma-smelly shoes. Not good! Not cute! Not in the spirit of Spring!
I am down with the pre-emptive bandaiding, to prevent blisters, but I can't figure out how to conquer the smell. I tried some of those Peds things that are supposed to go with flats, but first, they don't quite match up with the lines of the shoe, so they peek over the edges in odd places and you look like there is something scary and beige and medical going on in there, and second, they are too thin and synthetic and I think that today they may have actually made the foot smell worse, because woo boy. Help!
Posted by hilatron at April 19, 2005 05:34 PMI wish I had an answer! It would solve my smelly feet issue!
Posted by: Lizzie at April 19, 2005 06:59 PMMy solution has been pretty low-tech, but effective - baby powder. There are even specific foot powders out there (sorry, I don't know any of the names) that are even stronger. Even using a peppermint foot cream beforehand might help. Good luck!
Posted by: Barb at April 20, 2005 09:41 AMSorry, I just use the peds when I can. But I have black ones, which are a little better than the beige.
Posted by: ev at April 20, 2005 10:45 AMAs a matter of fact, Seventeen magazine's June addition, on newsstands May 28th, devotes a a number of pages to their self-styled "Summer Shoe Bowout!" and the Health section not only throughly advises on Summer Shoe Blowout Hygeine Issues, but also includes an article on how to remove every smell on you body (including bellybutton!) and also something with Hilary Duff and her glowing white teeth.
Posted by: tree at April 20, 2005 09:10 PMIs there any way to block these intrusive idiots and their ads?? SO annoying!!
Posted by: Auntie Jean at April 23, 2005 04:51 PMWell, there are things you can do, but it's sort of like trying to kill fleas with a teeny tiny hammer. There are always more of the pesky little things popping up in new and unexpected ways. I deleted the latest batch...for now...
Posted by: Hilatron at April 23, 2005 10:30 PMSome people use antiperspirant on their feet.
Gold's Bond Powder helps -- as long as you haven't got any raw blisters or cuts (stings like hell).
In hot weather, I go for sandals with absorbent footbeds. Though this keeps my feet fomr being so smelly, I do have to take the sandals out and shoot them at the end of the season.
Of course, you could always wear cotton socks and athletic shoes and pretend teehee that you're walking to or from work in them and will change into Real Shoes the minute you arrive.
The trick is, Do Not Arrive.
