I've got nothing to say, but others do: check the comments on the Texas Textbook Woohaw entry for insight from an insider.
Posted by hilatron at December 8, 2004 11:11 AMIs my state weird or something? Because there is no state authority which weighs in on textbooks. I mean, we have a state school board, and all, and they set minimum standards for things like class size and curricula, etc. But text books are chosen by each school district.
In addition to which, guess what happens to districts violating state standards (which happens all the time)?
Nothing.
Posted by: Doombot at December 8, 2004 08:34 PMOh, you know how all that happened.
"State authority? Why then we'll have to pay them and that will take Taxpayer Money!"
"Enforcing standards? Why that might RAISE my TAXES, the single issue more important than any other!!"
And yes, your state is weird. :-)
